The Lord Mayor of London’s Fire Fight Night in support of Firefighters and Grassroots Boxing

An unforgettable experience

THE EVENT

In partnership with the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Alastair King DL, we are proud to present a unique fundraising event on the 8th October 2025 - a black-tie dinner for 450 guests who will get to experience the exhilarating sport of amateur boxing. The theme is “London vs New York”, with London represented by the famous Fitzroy Lodge who will take on a team from the New York City Fire Department. Boxing legends will mingle with politicians and members of the City and Wall Street, whilst 100 additional standing only guests will also enjoy the boxing bouts, creating an electric atmosphere.

THE VENUE

Taking guests on a journey of nearly 2000 years… Guildhall is home to the City of London Corporation and is still the centre of government for the City. The impressive Great Hall of this listed landmark provides the perfect backdrop for an evening of combat sports and fine dining. In fact, during Roman times, Guildhall was the site of the largest amphitheatre in Britain and so is the spiritual origin of combat sports.

THE CAUSE

We are raising funds to help stop youngsters getting involved in gang crime by  introducing them to grassroots boxing. Through this sport, they are exposed to positive role models and learn the key values of discipline, respect and commitment. Their self-esteem grows through being part of the amateur boxing community.

Competition forges deep respect

THE RIVALRY

During the drinks reception, there will be fitness, technique and pad work demos by junior boxers from South London. Then at 8.30pm, we present seven amateur fights between senior boxers at mixed weights. The British and American fighters will be expertly matched to provide high quality, competitive bouts.

To conclude the evening our Lord Mayor, Alderman Alastair King DL will himself enter the ring for an exhibition bout against a special guest pugilist from New York. What a great way to complete his year in service!

CARNEY’S COMMUNITY | Battersea

“Carney’s Community exists to support all young people but we target our resources on those who face poverty, are in the care system, impacted by gun and knife crime, families misusing substances, domestic abuse and many who have been excluded from school or involved in the criminal justice system. Carney’s works differently by providing long-term consistent unconditional support, with a unique approach to mentoring that empowers young people with everything they need to be the best they can be. We provide a safe space and engage young people in positive activities including boxing, skills workshops, social activities, employment support, mentoring and one-to-one intensive key work.

Carney’s Community was started in 2011, combining the expertise of youth worker George Turner with boxing coach Mark Reigate to help young, disadvantaged people to turn their lives around. Inspired by boxing legend Mick Carney, who introduced George and Mark, Carney’s has always been closely connected to, and was in fact born out of, Fitzroy Lodge ABC.  With a core focus on boxing and key work, Carney’s often progresses those that want to compete on to Fitzroy Lodge, so we are proud to partner with the Lodge to represent London in the upcoming London -V- New York charity Boxing fundraiser.”

Trusted to serve and protect London

London Fire Brigade (LFB) plays a vital role in protecting the community by responding to emergencies, including fires, road traffic collisions, floods, and other incidents. Beyond firefighting, they conduct fire safety inspections, provide education on fire prevention, and deliver community outreach programs to reduce risks. LFB also supports disaster response planning and collaborates with other emergency services to ensure public safety.

Committed to inclusivity, LFB works to protect and serve everyone, making London a safer place for residents and visitors alike.

Fighting more than just fires

LFB supports grassroots boxing in the community as part of its commitment to youth engagement and promoting positive activities. Through partnerships with local boxing clubs and community organizations, LFB provides opportunities for young people to build discipline, confidence, and resilience.

By supporting grassroots boxing initiatives, the brigade helps steer young people away from negative influences, fostering a sense of community and teamwork. LFB staff often volunteer their time, mentor participants, and promote fitness and well-being. These efforts align with the brigade’s broader mission to engage with and inspire local communities, particularly in underprivileged areas.
